This is a beginner course for those who are new to competitive shooting. In this course, the student will learn how to take their shooting to the next level and enter the world of competitive shooting.

Topics covered include:

  • Four cardinal rules of firearm safety
  • IDPA safety rules
• Basics of IDPA
• Firearm and gear
• Shooting stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control
• Clearing malfunctions
• Drawing from concealment
  • "C" sweep
  • Rip 'n grip
• Pick up and load
• Reloads
  • Emergency
  • Tactical
• Navigating the course of fire
• Shooting from behind cover
• Shooting moving targets
• Shooting with strong hand or weak hand
• Keys to success in competitive shooting

This one day course will include dry fire and live fire drills. Following the course, students will have the opportunity shoot the next IDPA match at Speedway Gun Club together and with the instructor.

The cost for the course is $125.00

The course will be taught by our Lead Instructor, David Garrett. Mr. Garrett is an NRA, USCCA and SC SLED certified instructor as well as a graduate of the Shooting Performance Firearm Instructor Development Course. He has been a competitive shooter for many years and won the 2023 IDPA World Championship in ESP SS.
